Expensive gas… good?

$$ GasSo I read this article this morning that outlines all of the reasons why $8-a-gallon gas would be a good thing for America.

It’s a pretty insightful article (bruckin it up for the common folk!!) and actually provides a small glimmer of hope for the future.

On the other hand, it simultaneously implies that pretty much the only way Americans are going to give a shit about how awful and destructive cars really are is to make them prohibitively expensive to operate. While probably true… it’s still a little sad.

On a side note: What have I been saying for over a year now? Tax the shit out of Hummer owners… why? ‘Cause fuck them! That’s why! Maybe if we make driving big-ass gas-guzzling pollute-o-mobiles as harmful to consumers’ wallets as they are to the world at large we’d get some people to wake the fuck up!!

Exactly my point…. man. Owning a Hummer is mean to EVERYONE. It’s inherently selfish. Driving around in a car like that is like wearing a t-shirt that says, “Fuck you, I don’t give a shit about anyone but myself”. Or more accurately, it’s akin to rolling up to a pump, paying for $50 of gas, and then spraying half of it all over the ground!

Seriously… buy a humble, used car for half the price of your Hummer (if not less than half)… it’ll waste WAY less gas and take up less space on the road. It’d also be easier to park. Then you could take the left over $$ and do some good with it. Donate to a charity that helps people. Invest it in energy saving technology. In fact, even if you took that extra money and spent it all on booze and lap dances, you’d still be doing the world a favor, man.
